GRAHAM WILSON
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in outback Australia and have written 12 novels and a memoir. The memoir tells of life growing up in a remote aboriginal community. The novels are a mix of historical fiction set in early Sydney and thrillers set in remote Australia, the landscapes of Crocodile Dundee
I've been writing my whole life and about twenty five years ago started my first book, Perfect Plan. I never intended to publish it. I can't stand predictable and/or unrealistic stories such as the Jack Reacher series. Nothing ruins a novel faster than an “Oh, come on!” moment, or pages of useless blabber. My books are layered and authentic, realistic page-turners for both male and female readers that immerse you in the story and characters, making you emotionally involved. There is nothing worse than pages of descriptions that have zero to do with the plot. Some authors with write page after page describing a bathroom, the décor, and then use only one page for an action sequence. Ridiculous. I write books that readers don't want to put down. The award winning Davenport Series has six books so far with two more done and ready for publishing. I've been waiting for a marketing push to get these out. there
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I grew up in outback Australia and have written 12 novels and a memoir. The memoir tells of life growing up in a remote aboriginal community. The novels are a mix of historical fiction set in early Sydney and thrillers set in remote Australia, the landscapes of Crocodile Dundee
My latest book is The Mysteries, which fuses a historical mystery of Irish immigrants to places in Australia
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Once a new story is running in my head I write almost non stop until I have it down on the page, often a week of writing 16 hours a day
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Gone Girl gave me a large part of the idea for my outback thrillers, the Crocodile Dreaming Series. Here you think you know where the story is going only to find out it is heading somewhere completely different
What are you working on now?
Two things, one is a sequel to The Mysteries which I have titled 'Elusive Cindy', the story of the girl who vanishes at the start of Mysteries. The second is a tall tales and true story of some of the amazing characters of the Australian outback
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I give all book promotion tools and websites a try and either keep using them or not based on results. To date I have invested minimal time and effort in direct social media promotions as others are better at thhis than I am and I would rather pay them to do this for me..
Which Websites you like most to promote your book
Whichever deliver the best results
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don't talk about it but set time aside to do it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
What my wife said to me when I talked about writing my first book for a year or two, "Stop talking about it and just do it!"
What are you reading now?
I alternate between true stories and great thrillers. I life reading books from new authors and my current one is called 'The Falls' by Lex Sylvester
What’s next for you as a writer?
To figure out if doing a screen play of one of my outback thrillers makes sense
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
War and Peace, Game of Thrones and two books or series I have never heard of.
