The Woodsman by Michael Andrews

As a child, Zachary Downes survived a vicious attack at the hands of his own father. His brother, Kenny perished in the same attack, as did his father, apparently killed by Zachary in self-defence. Traumatized and grief-stricken, Zachary has no memory of the events of that day. At the time, police believed that Zachary’s father was The Woodsman, a serial killer responsible for a number of murders in the area.
Twenty-one years later, Zack, now a detective constable, is assigned to investigate a series of killings that bear a startling resemblance to those of the Woodsman. Was his father wrongly accused? Are these copy-cat murders? Who is The Woodsman? Where will he strike next? Will Zack identify him and stop him before he can?
