Vashti’s Daughter by Raven West

Raven West Facebook Linkedin X-twitter Goodreads-g Amazon Globe Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written. Raven West is the author of Red Wine for Breakfast, (Lighthouse Press, 1999) First Class Male, (Lighthouse Press, 2001), Undercover Reunion (Createspace, 2011), Vashti’s Daughter (2023), Journey to Dimension Nine – 26 Erotica Short Stories by FireBird and a non-fiction memoir Rescuing Ruby: How I Rescued My Father from Greedy Cousins, Thieving Attorneys and the Florida Guardianship System. I’ve won awards from several literary publications and writer’s clubs and have been a frequent guest on radio, podcasts and cable shows. What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it? This will sound quite strange, but the inspiration for Vashti’s Daughter originated from a very unique relationship I was involved in with a former high school classmate several years ago. It was so intense, I felt as if we had known each other in a previous life. When I ended it, he was quite upset and told me, “You will never find love again, now and for all eternity.” (Which was certainly not true as I’ve been married to my current and forever love for over 40 years!) However, that one line also felt was like a “curse” made centuries ago, and most definitely was the spark that created the theme of Vashti’s Daughter, although the Jewish holiday of Purim and all that followed wasn’t originally the concept or the title of the novel. (Unfortunately, the real person who was the inspiration for the book passed away several years ago and never knew how important he was to my creative process.) The rest of the inspiration came to me during COVID, when I had plenty of time and plenty of unemployment, to concentrate on finishing Vashti’s Daughter. The history of basketball at Kutcher’s in the Catskills, the basketball scandals at Syracuse and Israel, the archeological dig and earthquake in Qutar, and even Alexander the Great, became part of the story. Where all these themes came from, I honestly have no idea! Do you have any unusual writing habits? I listen to music on PANDORA What authors, or books have influenced you? The late Joyce Elbert and her novel “The Crazy Ladies” was my true influence into fiction although I’ve been writing stories since I was 7 year old. I was an advid reader as my mom worked in the local library where I would go after school. Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged showed me how a writer of fiction could create an entire political movement and change the world! What are you working on now? I’ve been working on the sequels to Red Wine for Breakfast; Bourbon for Brunch and Daiquiris for Dinner for decades. The chapters and outlines have been sitting in my computer hoping to become completed works someday when I’m a “rich and famous” (or just rich) author and can quit my “day job.” What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books? Before COVID killed book fairs and personal appearances, and the entire publishing industry took a dive, the best method that worked for me were personal events and live radio/cable TV. MUCH has changed, almost on an hourly basis and its Which Websites you like most to promote your book Amazon is the one most people go to when looking for books. I’ve been listed on many websites, but none have produced any significant sales. Do you have any advice for new authors? Just WRITE! Don’t waste your time/money on “how to” books, writer’s groups, or even creative writing classes. Artists are not “taught” to paint. Many famous musicians never even learned how to read music. If you have the passions for literary creativity, then pick up a pen (remember those?) and put YOUR unique, individual creativity to work. If your goal is “fame and fortune” you’ll never finish that novel! What is the best advice you have ever heard? Never do today what you can put off till tomorrow! What are you reading now? Just finished “The Novel of the Century – The Novel of the Century: The Extraordinary Adventure of Les Misérables” by Daivd Bellos What’s next for you as a writer? I’m taking a break for awhile. If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring? First, I’d take my OWN novels since I still re-read them all the time. Going on the “fantasy” trip, I would “take” Ayn Rand, Victor Hugo and Joyce Elbert on the island with me. Ah, the books we could all write if we had the time!! I used to say that “overnight success” takes about 10 years, but I’me going on 25 and need to review my comment, or re-define the word “success”! I’ve written four novels, received many great reviews and met some extrordinary people I’ve never met. While nearly all of the characters in my novels that I based on real people have since passed-on (no lawsuits there!!) I’ll continue to do what many cannot until I can no longer breath. Being a writer is NOT what I “do”… it is, and always has been who I AM (not matter what name I’m using!) Just be VERY careful what you say to me…it just might end up in a book someday!

Dorcas by C A Deegan

C A Deegan Facebook Twitter Instagram Amazon Wordpress Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written. Hi everyone! I am the author of the Cracklock Saga. I live in the East Midlands, right in the center of the UK, and when I’m not writing or working, I’m with the family or walking the dog in the local woodlands seeking those ever-elusive Fae. Or sitting, pint in hand with the good friends I grew up with. Some of them are hidden in the books themselves; quite a few characters are based on the people I know and love. All the books are set in our world but with an overlap with the world of the Faery, plus a few other worlds thrown in. I have published six books, with the seventh due to be released at the end of February 2024. This will be book 5 of the series, and the penultimate book. What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it? My latest book is “Dorcas”; a standalone from the Cracklock Saga. This book was not intended to be written when it was. It was one for the future. I was working on Book 5 of the Cracklock Saga, ‘The Coins O’ the Realms,’ when Dorcas started in on me. I kind of knew what had happened to her before she joined the Cracklock family, but it was almost like she wanted me to tell her story. Ideas were exploding like damned fireworks (which I hate; the dog is petrified of them), and I tried to ignore them. I really did. I wasn’t ready for her tale to be told; I had a series to finish. But that quiet, oh-so-familiar voice just wouldn’t let up. It clouded what I wanted to do in Book 5. So one Saturday morning, I thought, what the hell, and I started it. And finished it five months later, which is a record for me. I hope that I did her proud. Do you have any unusual writing habits? I am a hobby writer, so squeezing in a writing session early morning before ‘real life’ starts I suppose is not that unusual. Also, I cannot have any distractions whilst I’m writing – no musing, social media etc; I am too easily distracted! What authors, or books have influenced you? I am a lifelong Stephen King fan, and the richness of his worldbuilding and descriptions are fantastic; I try to emulate these. I love the late Sir Terry Pratchett’s stuff (who doesn’t); I was hooked after I read “Mort” all those years ago. And for Zompoc (my guilty pleasure) you can’t beat either Christopher Artinian or Damien Lee. Both UK zompoc writers and brilliant at what they do. What are you working on now? I am finishing up the edits on Book 5 of my series, ‘The Coins o’ the Realms’. I have also started my book 6, currently untitled, which will finish up this series before I move onto the next one. What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books? I am most active on the Cracklock Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/TheCracklockSaga . The website is also another good source of information on the Cracklock world. http://www.thecracklocksaga.com Which Websites you like most to promote your book Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCracklockSaga Twitter / X: https://twitter.com/CracklockSaga Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thecracklocksaga/ Threads: @thecracklocksaga Tiktok: cracklocksaga2022 Email: thecracklocksaga@outlook.com Do you have any advice for new authors? Don’t worry so much about your story! Every writer in the world was once not a writer. The difference is that they had the guts to write that first sentence. I have met a lot of great authors on my writing journey and every single last one of them always has doubts about their scribbles. Everyone thinks their work is ‘trash’. Everyone. But don’t stop. Fix the bits you don’t like, and have another look. You’ll think ‘Yeah, this is alright.’ Get a second opinion of someone you trust. If they like it, you’re onto something. Don’t worry about what comes after the story; that’s for later. Many people would like to be a writer, but only a few take up the challenge. Make sure you’re one of them. You’ll get there. If I can do it, then so can you! What is the best advice you have ever heard? “If you don’t have a go, you’ll never know.” I have always written short stories (never published them, too shy!) for pleasure; it just feels good to sit and type sometimes. But it was in 2019 really when I seriously started to wonder if I had a novel in me. I beta read for a number of authors, and wondered if I could actually do it. One of my author friends listened sympathetically and then told me to get on with it; there was no reason not to with those immortal lines above. So in May I finally started, and realized that I had no idea what I was doing! My first book was 210K long, and eventually became Books 1 and 2 of the series. What are you reading now? Lee Child – The Secret. One of my guilty pleasures…. What’s next for you as a writer? Publish book 5 of my series at the end of February, and get the final book, Book 6 out by the end of 2024. Then its more of the spin-off books, plus my new series featuring Tobias – he hunts dark Fae. If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring? 1. It by Stephen King. 2. The Secret History by Donna Tartt 3. Angry White Pyjamas by Robert Twigger 4. Out of the Pit – Steve Jackson / Ian Livingstone

Alexey Molchanov Facebook Instagram Amazon Book-open Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written. I am a man who holds a few hats. I am a former lawyer, traveler, and author with a never say, never attitude. Born in 1982 in Moscow, Russia, I had a promising start in my career as a law student, earning several awards and scholarships, including President’s scholarship and the Moscow government scholarship. I graduated with honors and went on to earn a PhD in law. I started practicing law but soon realized that the legal system in Russia was constantly changing and unstable, making it difficult to build a successful career. The unpredictability of the legal landscape forced my hand into quitting a professional I loved dearly. I left Russia in 2018 and have been a nomad ever since, traveling and experiencing different cultures around the world. Despite my legal career being cut short, I found solace in writing books, many of which can be found on my website, including children’s books, puzzle books, and even an analysis of my decision to leave Russia. My most recent work is an in-depth analysis of my decision to leave Russia in 2012. Practicing law in Russia had become more like crossing a bridge during an earthquake, with laws changing all the time due to political influence. I saved enough money and called it quits on my legal career. Writing became a way to understand my past and make sense of my experiences. My analysis of why I felt the urge to leave Russia turned out to be a fascinating and exciting work. I believe my book provides great insight into the realities of Russia, and I hope it will help others understand the dire situation and make a difference. Aside from writing, I am passionate about history, travel, and castles. I used to run a YouTube channel about knights and castles, but had to stop due to time constraints. Even though my career as a lawyer only lasted for 15 years, and currently been a publisher for a year, I have gained invaluable experiences that have shaped who I am today. What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it? ‘How Russia Became a Zombie State.’ It was expired even before the war. I left Russia 4 years ago and start preparing to leave in 2012. It was a attempt to recon for myself why then I decided to run away. What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it? ‘How Russia Became a Zombie State.’ It was expired even before the war. Strongly enough Robert Sheckley and Roger Joseph Zelazny What are you working on now? Another logic book of mine. It was long promised (to the void), but still. I will write second volume, but so far I am morally exhausted. If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring? Plant guide, fisherman’s guide and survivalists’ guide. I am sorry I am materially-minded. If you mean ‘what are books you can reread if you can’t go anywhere and nothing to do’ then ‘Nine princes of Amber’ or Shekley’s collection of short stories will do nicely!
